Slijkpoort Gate

People in Nieuwstad could access the road from Oosterweel to Lillo via Slijkpoort Gate. The name refers to the marshy area through which the road ran. The gate itself was half hidden behind an angular bridge designed to prevent a frontal attack. Like all the other city gates, it featured Italian Renaissance influences, including half pillars and a broken pediment. The bastion, which protects the gate, had straight flanks, two faces and two platforms for artillery.
The point of the bastion is represented in the new street design by two oblique stone blocks near Londenbrug Bridge.
