Plantinkaai Quay

Napoleon had the medieval walls demolished and the canals filled in. A new quay was built, with behind it a wall of neo-classical buildings. In the nineteenth century, the Scheldt quays were realigned. Near the coach park a lot of soil had to be brought in to align the curved quay between Sint-Jansvliet and Sint-Michiels bastion.
Result: during the survey in the coach park archaeologists found remnants of a wall underground. This probably is the Napoleonic quay, but they were unable to further examine the wall.
